Who We Are

The Gift of Sight Trust is a registered non-profit organisation in South Africa, founded in 2015 by Dr Johann Krüger and Marinda de Vos. Since then, we’ve been on a mission to prevent and treat avoidable blindness by offering life-changing cataract and retinal surgeries to underserved communities.

Why Our Work Matters

Unfortunately, thousands of South Africans still face years of vision loss—simply because they cannot afford private care or must wait indefinitely in the public system. As a result, many live with blindness that could have been prevented. That’s where we come in. We aim to bridge the gap, restoring not just vision, but also dignity, freedom, and quality of life.

Our Global Commitment

Furthermore, we align with the global mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Our shared vision is simple but powerful:
